I always loved Wolverine out of costume. The flannel, facial hair, and jacket were just the coolest. Jim Lee will always have the perfect definition of him.

I wanted to draw what will always be in my mind when I think Logan. They should just have a comic of him living in the woods and being cool.

He's one of those characters I decided to hate for awhile for no real reason and have now realized how cool he actually is. I always loved the New X-men Cyclops style, so I went with that. This is my take on the Invincible redesign. My idea was less stylish teen, and more mature ambassador. I had to get rid of the mask and make him seem more open and human.

I think we all can see that Mark has now gone with the "I" instead of "i" Real metaphorical!

Breakdown: JL Redesigns Pt. I

First things first, I really just wanted to try my hand at creating a new DC look. The one thing I tried to keep in mind for this (that the DC reboot didn't do) is to create each character with there own distinct design. Not all of them have to be wearing battle suits that look like painted Dark Knight costumes. But I also wanted to make sure they look good together as a team.

SO. Green Lantern. Pretty traditional for the most part, But I kinda took a little from Jon Stewart with the no shoes, and just the green and black. I like the look of the Green Lanterns without white. I didn't see the need of giving him the appearance of a padded costume because his suit is more based on energy. I thought it would have a more streamlined smoothness to it. I also wanted the costume to fit Hal Jordan and still be a little customized. So I kept the long gloves.

Cyborg was fun to do because he really didn't have a good look going on in the DCU previously. The show Teen Titans was the first I really got to know him, so I really took that design and tried to make it more grown up. He is... well a cyborg so he needs to have human and robot parts to him. I made his blaster arm able to be turned to a capable hand. I wanted him to be pretty large and commanding. Cold, yet still human.

I think for the most part, nothing crazy. More to come. I just get weirded out talking about my random thoughts for too long. So what do you think?

So here is a project I did back in the beginning of January but couldn't show anything until now. It is my first official step into profession work.

The book is a pretty cool Sci-fi/Adventure comic. Drawn by the talented Zach Bassett and inked by James Whynot. They got a hold of me to color it and I really had fun doing it.

The differences between them somehow don't matter and somewhat bring them closer. Very much a contrast to any other romance in other comics. But what do I know.

This will be the first Valentine's day that I truly will be a part of. I thought I could do a little something special for a girl I think is something special.

So, I went to the drawing board and decided to do this.

It's based off a piece by Norman Rockwell named "On Top of The World", Which I thought was very fitting. I wanted to make it that kind of look like a fifties doo-wop color scheme. I like how it turned out. This was going to be my BobaFett DayWeek entry as well, but I wanted this to be something just on its own.

The Assignment: Make your a Historical figure and create self portraits around that. I, of course, chose John Dillinger. So here is me as Public Enemy #1.

This was yet another drawing for the sketch blog Boba Fett Day Week. I didn't really know this character at all... I only knew the Masters of the Universe toys that I had when I was really little. And I remember them being very oddly proportioned, so I kinda ran with that.

Altho looking at it now, I can see where I developed my weird anatomy that I normally draw.

Editor's Day came and went

Editor's Day was today. That means editors from comic book companies came and gave portfolio reviews. It was definitely something I have been looking forward to, as it being my Senior year. I think it went okay. Got a lot of wonderful feedback for things that I can work on to become one step closer to awesome! So here is looking forward to the next couple years, for me to get crackin' and find that magic... Wish me luck.

The Lecture

Early this past quarter I attended a lecture that we had here at school from the great comic legends Klaus Janson and Howard Chaykin about comic book storytelling. It was a two day lecture. I learned a lot about the art of telling a story in a page and how to work with panels a bit. The first day was there ideas and tricks to convey movement in a panel, good layout and what information to include. That night a couple hand picked students were given a script and told to do 3 pages of tight roughs for the next days discussion. I was one of these lucky students.Overall they seemed to like what I did on pages 2 and 3. Page 1 kinda got a little confusing. But the lecture was very helpful and I learned SO much. I thought it would be nice to show what I did.

And wondered when my eye sight and hand-eye coordination would come back.

This is a page right outta the sketch book. I was bored while waiting for my plane to Savannah and decided it was time for my drawing pad and I to make up and get to doing the magic we do!

This one I just finished today. My roommate and I were watching the show (The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, in case you didn't know) and I just had to get to drawing. The pose was based off a picture I saw in Promo art... Dont remember where tho.

Anywoo, I thought I post these since I've had nothing to show for like two months. Dont you worry tho, the first quarter of my Senior year is ahead and I'm sure I'll have plenty of art rang outta me by then!

This is a comic I did for Visual Storytelling II. We had to come up with our own story, and I chose Jonah cause he was fresh on the brain... I just thought It'd be nice to do a good ol' western!

I wanted to get into other types of techniques. I used brushes, Pen, and Nibs for this, so really testing a couple different techniques...

So I just finished up my Final Rendering for my Conceptual Illustration class. It's the thing that I've been posting up for the past couple weeks. Well I got the final rendering complete and looking snazzy so I thought I'd give y'all (what like 3 people?) a look-see!

Well there you go! A good looking poster if I do say so myself. I definitely took from the Blade Runner theme and used that a lot...

Oh, yeah the name change... Arch City was kinda a stand in... Fitas means Faith, I like that... nuff said.

Arch City

In the year 2142, two detectives stumble upon a case that could change everything they ever thought. When a mass murderer comes out of hiding to continue his inhuman acts, Detectives Derek Allen and his robot counterpart R-952 follow the clues to a genetic scientist that has been missing for over 30 years. He reveals some knowledge about himself and his mission that makes Derek question what he believes.

But yeah, here is some art to wash down all that text!

It's been a long time, no posts. I will say that the lack of comments has gotten me a little blue... But I must say thanks to Will, Co-host of Geekeasy and the new coming Two Geeks, for commenting for almost everything. You are awesome man, thanks!

The Bowling Story

This is a story I did for the Backgrounds, Props and Structures class I had this past Quarter. We had to take a scene of two guys sitting in a bowling alley looking at girls and have one tell a tale about a WWII B-17 gunner finding a surprise in the plane.

I kinda went really crazy with the whole idea and made it an it one of those old man Tall Tales that Grandpas always tell...

I did this assignment for my Backgrounds, Props, and Structures class. I had to have a Detective/Spy guy leaving a Fancy shmancy party but jumping out a window into a sweet car with a Hot spy babe in it.

I did this, and I thought it was quiet fun to do. Looking back there are a couple panels I want to rework and change up the angles on but overall I am pretty pleased.

So it has been a little while since I've posted anything. The reason for this was due to a thing I like to call Hell, But others (such as colleges) like to hide behind the name Finals. Because of this, I have been busy at work with plenty of nifty art for all to see...

Over the next couple of weeks I will be releasing pages and pages of Explosions of Awesomeness for your eye to melt to.

To start off, I will just give you a little treat of something I did.

This was a story that we had to do for my Backgrounds class... Had to have the River Street of Savannah, A couple coming out of the rain, and... a Mysterious ending.

I think I got all three.

The movie is out!

Finally, and it is SUPER awesome. If anyone tells you different... they are WRONG! It was just that good. I hate all these people dogging it for reason they don't even have! It seems most civilians are having trouble with the content of the comic, and that's just there problem for being lame. I mean I don't mean to get off on a rant here but...

The other side is all the comic people going, " It was just the Comic..." Yeah it was, Cause remember it was a movie called Watchmen Based off the comicbook by the same title... I got it, instead lets take the wonderful plot from the book and like make Night Owl have laser eye vision. Silk Spetre can fly with John. See, when you don't go by the book you get a Daredevil, Electra, Spider-man 3, X-men 3, Superman Returns...

I mean don't get me wrong, this is America and you can have your opinions, but really? REALLY? I mean, if you didn't like it, maybe thing about moving to China cause I hear they are in to that whole no creativity and dumb thinking kinda thing too! Enjoy it, I hear the weather is nice! But I don't know, that's just my opinion...

Sorry I've been listening to too much Dennis Miller I think. Anyway the movie is good! Congrats to all who brought it to life... I recommend all seeing it a lot!

I've been working non-stop since school started back at the beginning of the year. I don't have much to show yet, But I thought it would be nice to put up my Thumbnails and Tight roughs for "Chickasaw Adventures" a terrible book that we have to draw for....

The story is about this Native American boy that time travels to different points in the History of the Chickasaw tribe

First Scott normally sends me an idea for the cover. Or I find a theme in the script that ties it together. This is a famous cover from the "Crisis on Infinite Earths." Very neat.

After getting the cover I like to make a couple thumbnails to show Scott what I'm thinking of doing. Just some simple sketches really, to get the idea down...

Now After getting the OK from Scott on the thumbnail, I go ahead and start to finalize the cover. With the pencils I definitely go ahead and get the cover looking finished. This is where i do all the perspective stuff with ruler, get poses natural, place people in a the right ways and all that...

This the stage of Inking. I like how this stage can really change a piece sometimes. I try and do a lot of major details in this. I like to work on the inking and bringing out different qualities from the pencils.

After penciling and inking, I move onto colors. This is what the basic colors look like without lighting, shading, and Titles and such...

Shadows, Lighting, and all those wonderfull things come next and help make the colors really pop. I like this part. It can really make the covers turn from ok to wonderful!

The final touch is putting the Titles and Chapter stuff all on..

Well I hope you all enjoyed and learn a little about my process of doing covers. I plan on doing more of this of more covers. Hopefully I can find all the pencils to most of them, I here thats what a lot of people want to see.

Here is a look at the cover to Geek by Night's episode 8. I put up the inspiration cover so you could see a little of what I was going for.

For this one I had to come up with goofy looking costumes for each of the characters and kinda play off of their powers and codenames... It was pretty fun!

So I think it's been a couple months since I posted anything. I really have been busy with school work and finals and getting everthing in order back at home on break.

But, with this giant break I now have a bunch work to show . So I can put on some sketches and colored stuff that I did. But I am just gonna give you little bite size bits...so you don't become a junkie!

Geek by Night Episode 6 cover

So I do covers for a podcast called "Geek by Night." Good stuff if you haven't heard, but I do the covers and a voice, and this is the latest episodes cover.

The idea of the covers is to kinda base them off either a movie poster or like in this case a comic, Avengers #4 to be exact.

But I had nothing else to post and I want to get in the habit of posting, if anyone looks that is.

I would love to hear all comment and question if you have them.

This is a preview of some more art I'm doing for GbN. It's taken from a Buffy promo picture. I still need to color it and do all that nonsense, but it's looking good so far right?

I have covers 6 & 7 in the bag, can't wait for you guys to take a look at them. They are my favorites so far... I've been pretty busy juggling Lines for the show, Art for the show, and that other thing...Oh, yeah, School! But It's keeping me pretty loaded for a while to come. But, I hope more people from the show start to check out my blog, come visit, and comment...

Gary Busey is the Man!

For my College we have Anthologies come out every year. They have a theme and you can submit anything to do with that topic. This year's is Biographies... so I thought about doing a bio on someone that just blows my mind, Gary Busey, but I'm not....this is a sketch for that idea tho. Just look at that crazy gleam in his eyes!

If anyone has ideas about a good Biography to do that would be cool, let me know....until then I'll leave you with Gary...
